I wanted a universe where meaning was not a metaphor, and I wanted it to be checkable. The test of a speculative physics is whether you can derive something from it that surprises you. The third consequence surprised me: a universe in which the right thing is always cheaper and never once required. I did not design that. It fell out of the fourth law.

The unsolved pair at the end is genuinely unsolved. I worked on it and could not close it. Publishing it open seemed better than publishing it wrong.
